Ruth Rendell, the author of the popular mysteries featuring Chief Inspector Reginald Wexford and many, many others, has died at age 85. She also wrote under the pen name Barbara Vine. The New York Times called her “a prolific and hugely popular writer of intricately plotted mystery novels that combined psychological insight, social conscience and, not infrequently, teeth-chattering terror.” See more.
