Old Spanish Days Fiesta, Santa Barbara’s biggest party, starts this Wednesday, July 30th. We, of course, have some books to offer:
Erin Graffy de Garcia’s new book, Old Spanish Days: Santa Barbara History Through Public Art, is not a history of the Fiesta, rather a history of the Spanish period of illustrated by the public art on display around town. Organized by topic instead of chronology, it’s a fun way to learn more about our town’s history. |
Stella Haverland Rouse’s Santa Barbara’s Spanish Renaissance & Old Spanish Days Fiesta does cover Fiesta, but it’s also a good look at the city’s Spanish past, and that history’s adoption as the driving force in architecture and image in the early 20th century. |
Fiesta: The Celebration of Old Spanish Days, Santa Barbara, California a big, lavish photo book by A. Arthur Fisher. His photography covers all of Fiesta in brilliant color. From Primavera and Los Noches de Ronda to El Desfile Histórico and the Desfile de los Niños, it’s all here. |
